Finito!

I turned in the butterfly to the metal fabricators last week and I’m anxiously awaiting word on where it will be installed.

The sticks and stone application was time consuming, but the results are fun.  Sticks are bamboo skewers cut into various lengths and hand painted in multiple blues.  Stones are glass blobs, rocks and painted Timtex.  The body is covered in painted Timtex that came out looking like peacock ore… great in the sun!

The 2009 butterfly “Sticks ‘n’ Stones” is finally underway with the arrival of the Paverpol.

I painted the fabric, heat set it and applied it to the wings with Paverpol over the weekend.  Whew!

Next step:  Adding the sticks and stones.

Butterflies & Friends

I’m happy to report that my design was accepted for the 2009 Butterflies & Friends project.

Once again, the Rotary Club of Colorado Springs will be installing beautiful butterflies around town, all created by local artists.  The project will raise funds for two elementary schools that have lost their early arts programs to budget reductions.

Featured Artist

I was honored to have been a Featured Artist at Wild Heather for the month of April.

It’s quite a humbling experience to have your art put out there for public review and comment.  It’s also a terrific way to grow as an artist.  I finished pieces that had been languishing, created a few new ones and felt a nice sense of accomplishment.
